Jesuits embarked on establishing St Peters Kubatana in the 60s to empower locals through industrialisation.
Knowing that industry is central to the growth of the economy and also the development of societies, the
best way of empowering the less privileged and oppressed people was to empower them with technical skills
and to be part of the industry. The history of St Peters Kubatana Students' contribution to local industries
is enormous to this day. This may not have been documented, but a general survey into the Willowvale
industries shows that the St Peters Kubatana Vocational Training College, now Industrial Training College
has been and is still a major training ground for its technical personnel and artisans.
In the present day, our vision for the Technical College is that it goes further to help in resuscitating the
industry of country and offering technical skills at advanced levels. Also, the college itself should aim at being
an industry itself in ways that it can, and students to see themselves as already artisans, even though they may be
training, they can still be productive and contribute to their communities. A sense of solving community problems
in their respective fields is what we aim to impart to our students and not for them to wait until graduation.
The creation of work and providing opportunities for that is indeed, contributing to the divine call of which
humanity is called towards for the betterment of its societies.
"THROUGH WORK man must earn his daily bread and contribute to the continual advance of science and technology and,
above all, to elevating unceasingly the cultural and moral level of the society within which he lives in community
with those who belong to the same family"
(Pope John Paul II - Laborem Exercens).
